Well since my Athlon XP 3200+ broke at Dreamhack i'm gonna buy som new hardware soon. I wonder what mobo should I use amd why?? And what chipset should I use. I personally think nForce 4. And then what CPU is most worth the money and wich core should I use??
Thanks in advance//Hasse

What's your Budget? getting a amd64 4000+ will suit you for a long time, or even a amd64X2 will be even better. getting a socket 939 with a nforce4 chip would be good and this time you gotta worry bout lower memory timings too.

I will prefer an Athlon X2 3800+ as the CPU , its around 320U$D
For motherboard , Nforce 4 SLI is good , brand is your choice . I would recommend DFI nforce 4 SLI-DR if your budget is sufficient . In low range a Gigabyte K8N pro SLI or an Epox 9npa+ ultra would be fine too . |

I'd get a Venice AMD 3200+ or 3500+ and a Gigabyte K8N Pro. I'd personally save some money and overclock the CPU. The Venice cores are good at overclocking so you should be able to save quite a bit of $$$

I personally am very happy with my Athlon64 3200+ (venice) and my A8N-E.
The mobo isnt the best of the best, but it does what it's suppose to do and it's quite cheap. I'm running my proc @ 2.4Ghz (standard 2.0) and if I didn't have such crappy memory I would be able to stretch it a lot further. Out of the 3 reviews I've read about the 3200+, 2 could get it @ 2.7 and one got it to 2.8. So if you get (or already own) really good memory I would really advice the 3200+ and the price is ofcourse very attractive. here are 2 articles that might help you choose. (It's about the influence of procs in games and compares somewhat all of nowadays procs) Link1 Link2

My personal recommendation would be to get the same setup that I am upgrading to this week( I currently run ECS Nforce4-A754, 1gb pc3200, Sempron 3400) and I am upgrading to a 939 MSI Neo 8 Platinum(roughly130@newegg) Athlon64 3800 (same 2.4ghz core speed as the 64 4000, but with less cache. 280@newegg) and im getting
2x1gb OCZ GOLD PC4000 DDR500. I've seen people who OC the 3800 to 2.89 or so, and blast the FX57 in benchmarks, which is a 1000 dollar cpu.. |
