Well so far in alot of games i've been stuttering lately like in nfsmw,bf2(not as bad as before though only beginning),dod, and hl2.
So far i changed the gpu's latency to 32 which reduced stuttering a lil in dod and bf2, agp aperature size is at 128mb pagefile at 1536/1536 on secondary drive, and i defrag everyday with perfectdisk 7. Anyone else have any other tips for reducing stuttering? specs---------------------------------- amd64 3200 stock eVGA 6800nu 403/800 drivers xg.81.95v.2(best drivers for me so far) 1gb of ram |

I doubt it, but have those games always stuttered on your rig? I guess you've tryed the latest mobo/sound drivers for your board? I see you've got agp aperature set to 128mb, for optimal performance set to quarter or half of your system ram ie 256mb/512mb (can't see it making that much differerence though) If all else fails a reformat/fresh XP install solves most of my probs

You have a Geforce 6800 128mb? If its the 128mb, its probably the high textures level in game that are making you stutter. If you lower the texture from high to medium you probably wouldn't stutter.
Otherwise, I'm fresh out of ideas :bucky!: |

But yea, apart from OCing your cpu you've done everything else you can. I OCed my cpu the other day and noticed some improvements in FEAR. I have my aperture set to 256 with 1G Ram as well btw. And I've found the xg latest drivers to be a big boost for me too. One thing I read when trying to get rid of HL2 stutters was that, sometimes gpu latencies can be too short stopping other devices like sound cards from doing what they need to (but obviously not too long as to cause gpu delays). I have my gpu latency set to 128 and sound card at 0, BUT altho it made a very slight difference it didnt get rid of all the stutters in HL2. Some of them are unavoidable unless you manually pre-cache all the sounds for that level each time! Cant suggest much else I'm afraid! Sometimes you can just be lucky with different hardware combinations and setups when pushing performance to its limits. ___________________ Cpu: 2.8G @ 3.1G Gfx: 6800gt 256mb @ 400/1.1 Ram: 1Gig |

isn't setting the latency of your sound card to 0 bad? I would think that that must be unstable at times.
Anyways im thinking bout buying a new psu after christmas, probably since i got a crappy one it might be worth a try, will look into 12v@22A or higher. EDIT: well i tried choupolo's settings and it seems to be good. only get a few stutters in first 10 seconds in dod:s @1280x1024 0xaa and everything else high. Still going to try other games will be back for more. |
