I am trying to spec out a rig to use as a counter strike source pub server. I am trying to make this a low cost effort...about a max of $400 with the OS.
I plan on going with a socket A mother board, 1.5 gigs of cheap DDR and some decent hard drive. my questions is what can i get away with as far as CPU's go? The cheaper the better. I just need the server to handle 20 or so players with out choking, lagging or any other bottle neck. If you can spec some thing out at or very near $400, I am all ears...(eyes realy, only because i have to read responces) |

Seems fine to me, why not just get 1024mb ram though?
You might want to ask at the Steam Powered Forums for some specialist advice though. Your upload speed should allow at least 10 people to get decent pings? What you reckon |

Is 500kb a fast enough upload speed for a server? I remember trying to run a MOH server on a 1.5, 386 cable line, and only 6 people coul;d play before lagging out.
