He's explaining the requirments of a 6800 in terms of power.

Your PSU (Power Supply Unit) needs 22 Amps on the 12 Volt Rail to run the card. If you open your case up and have a look at your PSU it should have a list of power statistics, such as information on how many amps are on the 12V rail.

Have a look before/if you purchase a 6800 series to see if your PSU has sufficient ampage to power your graphics card.

Excuse my language but, "fornicate No!"

If i remember correctly, the 5900 Ultra wanted a 480 Watt PSU.

The 6800 needs a nuclear reactor to run, one downside to Nvidia Cards...

Id suggest getting a minimum 550 Watt. 600+ ideally though.

Hope this helps...

Sorry but you have no idea what you're talking about

The brand new Radeon X1900XTX comes with a recommendation of 480watt, and 550watt if you run two in Crossfire mode. I used a 6800 ultra a couple of years ago on a 430watt enermax psu with a load of other things connected. You don't necessarily just want a lot of watts, you want quality lines that deliver steady power.

As mentioned, check up on how many amps the 12v line can deliver. 350 watt should be enough, but I'd something at 400-430watt to be safe. Fortron makes good, cheap psus, and so does Seatronic.

But still, if the psu was too crappy you'd merely get crashes, not the very high temperatures that you're getting.

I don't know what case you have or if you have any airflow at all, but get a proper GPU cooler, a couple of case fans and keep the ide/sata cables tucked away in the back as much as possible.

If you start to see anything strange, i.e. your PC turning off when you're playing a game, you will most likely need to upgrade your PSU.

Here, this link may be of some use for working out power consumption: http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/

I calculated (from your specifications in your signature) that you require 315Watts MINIMUM. Its not wholly accurate however.

i read that 350w psu is minimum for 6800gt...
i haven't had any problems with it, so i don't think you'll need to get a bigger one
