In my experiance RivaTuner is the best OC tool for Nv cards, or you could try Coolbits 2.0 which opens core and mem clock frequencys within Nvidia's control panal
Edit: Quote:
overclock the core and memory in 5mhz increments, then test with 3Dmark06. once you've found a setting to be stable, move forward to the next setting. Make sure you pull back once you see the card is artifacting, and always keep an eye on temps(I believe 65c'ish is the max, safest temp for a 6800GT, but I'm not 100% sure) Goodluck. |

Unless you have aftermarket cooling, I would avoid overclocking a card that is that current. The performance / stability benefit isn't enough for me in that situation. I use "ForceWare Coolbits 2.0" as suggested above and it works really well.
Good Luck

Most of the clocking programs work as long as they have a temperature gauge to shutdown the overclock if it gets too hot. I've had some experience with the clock settings not staying as well, but that was with a Gigabyte program that came with my card. -Yoga

One tip is to start on core and oc until it gets unstable, write down the highest stable core speed. Set it back to stock. Then do the same with the memory, and finally put the core back up to the highest stable.
If you're overclocking to get extra performance that you wish to use daily then do it while the room temp is about the same as it normally is, without any extra fans. And of course, if you're ocing for 3dmark etc then open windows, hook up some extra fans, and do one test at a time, letting the cpu/gpu cool down in between.

An easy way to keep a case cool is to open it up and put a box fan near it. You have to be EXTREMELY careful not to cause so much airflow in the case that it damages the other fans though.

You could give NiBiTor a try (Nvidia BIOS editor), from www.mvktech.net. Make sure you read the guide tho ;) This little proggy has been known to convert 6800GT`s into 6800Ultra`s.
