I have a solution... I bought myself an s-video/audio to scart lead which sends video and audio to my TV :-) combine this with a logitech wireless rumblepad 2 and you got yourself a great console which can display graphics as advanced as an xbox360 given the right spec pc. I just did a head to head on warrior within on gamecube/ps2 and my new pc console type seytup thingy on my tv and it plays and looks better than the console version.
with games like race driver 3 and tomb raider legend around the corner things are looking good! by the way king kong plays great on a joypad too :-) |

Yeah I guess if you like to play console ports most of the time and maybe 1-2 PC only titles then yep PC is great. I guess if you don't mind to spend time fiddling with drivers, making sure your machine is always up to date, patched, virus scanned and clean, spyware clean, not running any extra processes that slow the game down then PCs are the way to go. And with those 1-2 PC only titles it's also great to have the latest and greatest videocard to find the developers aren't using 80% of it because they wrote the game for the dummy who lives down your street who still has a 1500Mhz computer with a Geforce2MX and hasn't updates his drivers in 2 years.
You guys need to take off the blinders I think.

Oh behave Procs. If you had Microsoft Windows Media Centre Edition, Firefox, GeForce7x00, 3GHz class CPU, 1GB RAM, SoundBlaster Audigy with SPDIF out, Nero 7.0, wireless keyboard and mouse, wireless joypads, a nice TV and turned on your firewall... you would not have any problems. This is hassle free gaming AND i might add, is essentially updating all on its own without user interference. This is enthusiast gaming... DO NOT even think that everyone is a PC noob like yourself.
The last good game written for GeForce2 hardware in mind as a recommended spec was based on the Unreal Tournament engine over 5 years ago! Go get your facts right... dumbass! Developers only provide fallback support for this rendering path because they can due toithe nature of the DirectX API. Coincidentally, the DirectX API is behind the original XBox and XBox360... and is why XBox360 offers some fallback support for XBox titles. Windows has a lot to do with it aswell... with the Xbox OS running on heavily customised Windows Kernel... Go figure! :P |

Hold on a min... it really is as simple as using a console! i simply press a joypad button which takes it out of standby then double click the game i wanna play then switch off my monitor and hey presto my pc game can be played on my tv whilst i lay on my sofa drinking tea and feeling happy i never paid for pc technology twice - simple! as for drivers and virus worries etc - well its never really an issue, probably overhyped is that sort of thing.
the only reason i did this in the first place was because i wanted an xbox360 but i knew i'd want an HD TV and they are so expensive! so i found a cheaper way to play 'next gen' using what i had already so bugger off xbox360 i have a pc,tv out cable and a joypad :-) AND i still have mouse/keyboard for shooters and strategy games, what could be better? well there is one drawback :-( the s-video out, although better than composite, it's not quite upto rbg scart or component cables but then nothing is 100% perfect is it. |

1 other positive thing i have found since i turned my pc into a console(of sorts lol)is i have rediscovered some older games i never got round to playing like tomb raider 2,3 and last revelation, broken sword 3 and gta vice city all in higher res than their older console counterparts :-) i know retro gaming is often just not as much fun as u imagined it but due to the pc resoltion etc some of the older games look good enough.
