I own both a console(ps2) and a reasonable spec PC(2400cpu,5900xt,1 gig mem) and i enjoy all types of game genre's but i must admit to being a bit more drawn to the ps2 due to its single player action adventures and racing games. My reason for this standpoint is that the PC doesn't have a standard spec or easily usable joypad solution for racing, third person and sports games! :-( and mostly games which would work great on my joypad(multiformat which are designed for joypad play) so i end up frustrated, an example would be the 'need for speed' series which obviously looks amazing on my PC but plays better on the ps2 joypad. I would point out that some console games which are great games don't work on the PC because the developer has tried(and failed) to reconfig the controls to work on a mouse/keyboard setup and ended up with a damaged joypad driven game! So to conclude, my point is this...

Why can't the PC get an industry standard gamepad/joypad solution then PC gamers can get the best of both worlds, mouse/keyboard first person and joypad driven console style games?

I know most PC enthusiasts will probably feel threated by this as their favourite platform moves closer toward the console market but i don't see it that way, their will always be a place for PC and console games.

Konami released DDR for the PS2 and Xbox, but they haven't done so for the PC.

Therefore, consoles win

The reason why there are no controller standart is for PC is because not everyone wants
a 5 bucks controller and not everyone can affort a 300 bucks steering wheel, 200 bucks
Flight Stick and a shitload of mice and keyboards. i find it rather sad to play a racing
game with a pad or flgiht sim. That's what makes the PC always better for me over a
consol. Besides it never really felt right playing MP on the net with a consol for me. And
what Xtreme Elite n00b plays a FPS game with a pad?

You can get a converter to use your PS2 pad on PC, not sure how well it works though. I've been using an old MS sidewinder pad till now. I've been trying to get my wired usb 360 pad to work on my PC, and it is working through some dodgy driver site, but the pad isnt that well supported. Potentially if devs are willing to support it in future games, I'd love to be able to use this pad for some of the arcade game ports from console.

But the PC is all about specialist controls like logitech's steering wheels or those uber flight sticks. That's why I tend to leave my arcade games for my console and my sims and FPSs for my PC. As for MP, you only have to meet both communities to tell the difference, those PC sim guys are the nicest people on the planet! :P XBox Live is still fun tho, when you dont have a stroppy american kid calling everyone a 'gay idiot fag' every second. Yup thats what happened today. XBox Live bringing the world together.

But I heard recently that Peter Moore wants MS Vista to make PC gaming an established brand ie more like consoles. Doesn't he get that it already is its own brand?? Dont ruin Sega, 360 and PC as well! I dislike that guy.

Enthusiast PC gamers, like many of Gamershell are, use the PC because it is versatile and allows you to build a gaming machine around your own particular requirements. Console are restricted hardware and peripherals, where you have to have a joypad to play anything.

When I am bored with playing games, I can switch to desktop and design some artwork, make some music or download HDTV pr0n. The XBox and XBox360 are mini-PCs... with all the good things which make a machine ripped out and replaced by cheapo plastic and neon lights. The thing which has made the XBox brand and PS2/3 what they are, is the fact that they allow you to do things, which computer users have been doing for a decade or more.

Oh and by the way. 3-4 weeks after the console gheypads are released there are always USB/Serial converters to run them on the PC, But the majority of PC users have better choices and would probably choose to go out and shell a bit more cash on something a bit nicer. Personally I use £130.00 joystick, a £200.00 graphics tablet and a £100.00 keyboard & mouse combo. :P

Amen the mouse and keyboard are much more useful than a joypad but i like using a joystick for flight sims so do you can get controllers for pc that look like the ps2's controller and what the hell is DDR?

Heh, DDR=Dance Dance Revolution. Never played it myself, but I do like those types of games!

I guess GH has a lot of PC ppl here, but if you ask a console head, they'd probably say the advantage of consoles and joypads is that you can usually play games on a big screen in the comfort of your living room and sofa, potentially with friends over. Also that you dont have to bother thinking anything technical, games just work...well not so much with 360 now :P

I used to enjoy that when I was at home with my parents, but now all I've got in my flat is this ancient morphy richards 14" CRT! It's very bad, so until I graduate and get me an HDTV, my console experiences will be limited to that old TV and my PC monitor for 360 where none of the resolutions fit (being non-widescreen), but its better than the TV... So I tend to prefer my PC, and its PC style games.

Nothing beats the relaxation of laying on the sofa with my ps2 controller, sometimes I even play a game with it. My pc and me have a hate/love relationship as far as him doing what I want him to do (PC's can often be compared to women, no matter how you upgrade, incompatibility issues will always excist.)

I love my ps2 for games such as Silent hill, Metal gear solid, 24 and Gran turismo 4. However, nothing beats kicking ass in Blitzkrieg or Battlefield series on pc. The ps2 never failed me and my pc is one stroke of bad luck lately so I guess I'll choose ps2 for simple arcade gaming and general entertainment and pc for graphics and Bk2.
