I've been browsing around doing some more research on ATI Video Cards, and Ive been starting to see a trend...

Why is it that more people recommend an x850 over an x1600? What is the difference between the cards and what not?

Itd really help if it was listed like Pros/Cons of each, and then i guess an overall analysis of the situation.

Dunno if that makes any sense? :samurai:

x1600 is a really poor performer according to reviews. pretty much the only advantage it has over the x850 is shader 3.0 and avivo.

X1600's only have a 128-bit memory interface. X850xt's, 9800pro's, 9700 pro's etc have a 256-bit memory interface. I think the 9700pro was the first card ATI manufactured with a 256-bit memory interface hence part of its success over Nvidia's rival(5800ultra=128-bit memory interface). Also, the X1600 only has 12 pixel pipelines compared to X850XT's 16.

kk... out of fear of being flamed or something for making another post... ill just post my other questions in here...

can anyone link me to a decent motherboard and a processor to work together with this video card? my mobo currently doesnt support pci express im pretty sure... its an older Asus... and my processor will act as a bottleneck i think =\

Whats the difference between Intel and AMD? Which is preferred for gaming?

any help is appreciated >.<

In terms of performance per dollar/pound/euro, you are best of buying an AMD Athlon64 CPU. Dependant on budget, you should look at something around the specification of AMD Athlon64 (939) 4000+ or a AMD Athlon62 X2 (939) 4200+.

In terms of motherboard, I would really have to recommend you look about for a board that suites your budget, but something with the Nvidia Nforce4 chipset is a sound bet. Make sure you buy a board with AGP/PCI-XPress and that you have a modern enough power supply (PSU) to handle the load of your new components. Also some legacy PSU's might not have the right connectors for your motherboard or choice of GFX card, so be careful.

If in doubt ask here or PM me.
