I'm waiting for dx10 cards too, but I heard recently even the next Ati card (the r600) is still going to be dx9 only.
r600 news...Rumour is they want to make their single fastest dx9 performer before they do anything with dx10, since the first dx10 cards will undoubtedly need refining. That and
pure dx10 games are a fair way off, probably only hitting after Vista gains a solid userbase. So maybe a year or two off before dx10 will be the standard. (Especially since devs considering consoles too have to think about dx9 for the next 5 years or so)
I'm thinking of getting a X1900XT in a few months. I've been doing a bit of research looking at how it compares to the X1900XTX (which is rediculously expensive for a few clocks extra! :bucky!: ) and the 7900GTX, and I think the X1900XT the best bang for buck card at the moment. I'm looking at the Sapphire for £260 at OCuk and maybe an additional arctic cooling accelero x2 to keep it a bit more silent and cool for £18 at Tekheads. (Apparently the standard cooler is a noisy bugger!)
I'll admit I'm a bit of a graphics whore though, so those that can bear not to play at 1680x1050 and max detail, can easily go for something a lot cheaper! :P (as long as the value compares to this one.) Either way, good luck Burner. Tell us what you decide on in the end!
PLUS, don't forget to consider AGP/PCI-E! (...and a new power supply if you're going for a power hungry card!)
