ok. maybe someone here can help me. I've got a USB to serial port adapter for my stand alone fuel management for my car. the unit had a serial port and my laptop doesnt. thus the need for the adapter. the drivers and all load fine but it doesnt interface. the person that sold me the unit tested it before hand so I know that works. I'm wondering what might be the problem. the settings should be right. FIFO buffers have been tested at low or off and the data rate is at 9600 which is what is needed. the only thing that I can think that may be the source of my problem is that I had turned off some services on my computer for gaming. it was so long ago that i dont know what I had turned off. are there certain ones that would affect COM ports, usb, or serial? any help would be cool.

The services that are turned off for gaming in general aren't those that could negativly influence your com ports or anything. They are standard graphical and speed tweaks, and should have no negative effect on any port.

Did the person who sold you the unit test on on your laptop or on one that might have some specific drivers that you dont?

Good thing I drive a motorcycle, no need to tweak anything at all. I'll rush right by you on a real manly machine :P But nice grocerycar in your sig

he used a laptop too. I've talked with him a number of times this week. he has experience with the adapters and they've worked flawlessly. but we are using the same software and codes for our units so that shouldnt be a problem. luckily I put in an injector switch when I wired in the unit so that I can switch between the stock computer and the stand alone on the fly. he had his fuel maps loaded but they run like crap since he has a completely different engine build than I on boost.

if you cant help me than dont bother posting comments about my car. I really dont care what you think.

Pff, people who can't take a joke about their grocerycar ussualy compensate for their small penis :P

Anyway, take it easy, just kidding around I answered your questions, it's just a software issue we can fix, no need to get wound up like that. It's just an old car your trying to tune, not like it's a real car you'd have to drive to work with right? The brown paint looks like mettalic poop and girls don't really dig that and all.

Judging by your "he used a laptop too" I'm assuming he used a completely different laptop with other drivers and confics all together right? The most logical thing to do would be the both of you sitting around a table checking the drivers you use for each seperate piece of hardware and you should find the flaw. Good luck anyway

nah its all good man. I just get the same thing everywhere and it gets repetative. I just want it to stick to the computer problem is all. if you want to talk cars we can do it in another thread or over IM.

anyway. I'm gunna try reinstalling the tuning software and sticking with the base code right now and later dragging a desktop with an actual serial port out to see if its a laptop problem or an actual problem with the unit. I'll get back with the results.

ok. all is good. evidently the code variant that he loaded was different than mine. He had forgotten and had me load a specific variant to tune with that wasnt reading what the ecu was running. I reloaded the firmware and all is working fine.
