IMO i do not think that this is the point here. The main point is that (wtvr valve did with the engine) is that u get such a huge boost on game tech with what? 2 years and counting. Even if they said that they were working for 6 months on this, i think that no one was expecting such improvals on gaming this soon, since video and 3D are usual apps for multithreading/multicore/multiCPU.
And speaking of AI, Physx and such, i totally agree with you. Most ppl are going towards GPU or ageia card acceleration instead of going back to CPU. But! Cutting through the PR crap, imagine that all general CPU processing would be parallel and you'll get my point in the first paragraph! To wrap up things, don't you think that their just showing how good THEIR tech is instead of ad'ing for INTEL? This is kinda weird since, they have this 'close' relation with ATI which was just bought by AMD... [EDIT] OH! POST 666!

Putting synthetic benchmarks aside, will Quad 2 Duo really offer a huge improvement in gaming FPS over Core 2 Duo? I'd like to see some gaming benchmarks before conclusively saying yes. |

That 8800GTX gets more interesting every second, what's the price of that? :P

I just can't figure out the benefits of multi core cpu's. Unless you are running multiple programs it just doesn't seem all that. Nothing really has been written to take advantage of multi cores yet. Just like all the 64bit rage. WTF happened there? There is barely anything that makes running in 64bit mode worth it. I tried out a 64bit version of xp that was supposed to have a 32bit mode. An ass of the programs that I had on my pc before I tried it would no longer run. Why not? It was supposed to have a 32bit mode.
