Sweet PC yeah!

But one thing Santa Claus may have overlooked is the PSU. The 8800GTX needs a minimum of a 500watt PSU, but 600watt PSU is recommended. So if you haven't bought already, I'd strongly suggest upgrading the PSU to be on the safe side.

Well minus some of those drives, and plus windows vista so it kind of still evens out the price (which is 1,990 EUR btw)

I'd definitely suggest a Seagate SATA harddrive with perpendicular recording and 16 mb of cache. In raid they absolutely scream. In fact, they are really fast even without raid configuration. Many benchmarks show they can beat Raptors. They're not very expensive either, unlike the Raptors.

I thought you bought a Conroe E6600 based rig on September 5th?

Yep. Thanks for the heads up.
But history doesn’t necessarily repeat it self so I'm still going to buy two 8800GTX cards :P and overclock them to death!

Well if my experience counts for anything here, I would stay well clear of the G80 chipset board until DirectX10 is out and AMD/ATI release their 100% unified architecture next year.

If you look at the benchmarks under DX9 games, it is hardly substantially better than current generation technology. Obviously its faster, but not by enough to warrant dropping your DX9 boards yet. Remember the 5900 Ultra when that came out? I do, I brought one. It was amazing at DX8 games, but truley shocking at DX9, which was what is was supposed to handle. I distinctly remember my £350.00 GPU being outpaces by a £200.00 ATI board.

Nice rigs tho guys!

Unlike the GeForce FX fiasco (definitely their worst series ever price wise and technology wise), nvidia is sticking VERY close to the DirectX 10 specifications this time around. I hardly think you could compare the 8800 to the FX cards. I think it's a really good card and will hold its ground against what ATI comes out with. Now the price is another thing... I would definitely wait to see what ATI comes up with. That way there at least there will be some price drops. Since DirectX 10 games aren't here yet (and since Vista isn't even out yet, it's not even "released"), there's no big reason to drop your DirectX 9 card just yet. Especially if it can do everything you want it to do. If you have anything older than an geforce 6800 or a radeon x800, it would definitely be good to keep an eye out for this card. The EVGA version comes with a game and they have an EXCELLENT warranty program. Overclocking does not void their warranty. As long as the card isn't physically damaged, they will replace it!

Well its a personal perference. I am waiting til AMD/ATI release their version, because thats going to be 4-5 momths away and thats a long time in the gfx market. If AMD/ATi's board turns out to be rubbish then by that time nvidia will have the 8900 and 8950 out!
