What schooling demands a notebook, is what I want to know?
I mean I’m studying to be a Datanome and us if any would have use for our own laptops and the school did recommend getting one, but it's still not “mandatory”. Tho many have wasted their schooling allowance to a schooling “gaming” porpoise laptops.
And that in my eye is ridiculous.. 2000€ loan for a laptop + banks yearly increase (lets say a nice 6% for starters) that laptop will eventually end costing them around 2382€ that’s 3171 USD ladies and gentlemen in just 3 years! (And the % just keeps rising monthly!) And then I can't see how playing games on the lappy would pay it self back like some have dared to claim

Yes there’s always the chance they would get a summer job but very small change because all the higher level graduates usually get the job (no matter what job). Now these smart people that did use their allowance had to stop double studying and attending to high school at the same time because they desperately want to pay the loan back and make some money by working after school, as there’s a bigger change of getting a job then! And that really makes me sad!
In the other hand, even I’m studying for waste in some scale because our sad excuse of a country doesn’t have enough jobs! Our statistics show that even higher graduates from 4 years ago are still searching for a job that answers into their schooling…
Does taking all the summer jobs, and the things aren't getting any better, this year there were almost 60,000 high school graduates (4-3%) of them got jobs others had/decided to continue studying, now this is dramatically worse than it was in 2003 when 35 400 graduated and 6% got jobs.
But I guess your country’s economics are a little bit better than ours and I'm taking this way too serious

Good point HD, but you forget one thing: parents. Well, i didn't GET the money, i borrowed it. Since i got a study allowance from the government, im able to pay back that loan in 3 monts. (thats the loan with the lowest percentage in the country, there to give students some motivation in terms of money. pretty handy. On top of that, if you finish your college within 5 years, you won't need to pay back a part of it.) Because the laptop was a low-period deal, i needed to jump on it right away. Now im borrowing from my parents, which means zero extra percantage.
Im going to collega in Breda, Netherlands; Communications and Multimedia Design. That study involves alot of Photoshopping/illustrator/indesign and 3D modeling, as well as making games. People all have macbooks there, which are nice 'n all, but already cost to up to 2500 euros. Now, since i got this monsterthing, im not so sure if a macbook is handier. it might be more portable, but then again, 1kg max more isnt a bad deal for 600 euros less. so i had to make a decision. either wait till my allowance went to about 3k, or make a deal now and keep going for less money.
about the jobs... well, you cant just assume that there are no jobs around. in fact, youll get one pretty soon, if you know where to look.

@ kami
The laptop i bought was the fullest whitebook at Zepto. IF i didn't make a sweet deal, i doubt there'll be others that offer ALOT less than mine.

@ Magus
www.zepto.nl > its a danish brand, but very good in exporting lappy's.

Well I do have a steady summer job I'm one of the few lucky ones. And usually I spent 40 to 60% of my income into investments, been doing that for along time with my parents bank accounts until I got to the age of 18

Interjection: The thing that puts me off spending a lot of money on items such as laptops and computers is that they depreciates in value so much and the fact that technology is progressing at such a fast pace that it becomes obsolete so quick.
