Well, for now you're on the save side with a duo since there are still only few apps that uses it. But in a couple of years when it's time for a new machine you should definitly get a 5000core cpu

You can always wait a bit, as the 8800GTX may not be that good for DX10, so wait till AMD has its answer to Intel and Ati its answer to nVidia ;)

not to mention the next gen of amd and ati are going to work together in some realy cool ways!
possility of another buss from the processor straight to an ati based card!
amd's purchace of ati is making for a lot of hype and a lot of possibilities.
i'm sticking with my 754 sempron processor and ati 1300 vid card till i see what they are going to do
an i would recomend to anyone that as long as you can play the games wait for now on any upgrades!

doesn't make a difference since they are all the same with the only different is the sticker of the brand name. choose whatever got the best software for you
