I have an Abit IS7-M motherboard with a P4 2.4Ghz. From the beginning the on-board sound chip didn't work so I opted for a PCI sound card. It worked very well until the powersource died. I installed another one I had lying around but I guess it wasn't enough (300W) for the geforce 6800 XT I had installed cause the PC restarted after a little use. I bought a new powersource (450W) and it worked well, but the problem is that the sound card stopped functioning properly. I thought it was a sound card problem so I bought a new one and installed it, but it functioned exactly the same way as the old one. I tried to put it on a different PCI slot but nada. The cards work when Windows starts, but they stop sounding after a while or after starting any game. I'm sure it's not a software problem cause I reinstalled Windows two times. I have already deactivated the onboard sound chip from the bios. I have checked for conflicting IRQs. I'm running out of options.
The funny thing is that everything else is working just fine. Do you think the motherboard got screwed? |

I think my PC is the one who doesn't has enough love for me . I've been buying a new PC every end of year since 2003. I'll end up buying a f*cking console. It'll be cheaper on the long run. |

I think I'm gonna buy a new motherboard. It'll just be like $45 anyway. Before resigning, I just wanna know: Is it possible for a motherboard to get its PCI slots damaged due to a powersource dying while the PC was working? |
