??? Refresh Rate??? Not sure what your talking about.
Well I decided to do a little heavy duty benching with this PC, so I pulled out my Phase-Change out last month.
It took me a couple of weeks to get all the parts and fabricate a new LGA1366 hold-down.
And then I prepped my mobo and made some gaskets.
heatsinks and cpu retention mechanism removed.
Painted both sides of the mobo socket area with clear nail polish.
filled the cpu socket with Dielectric Grease
re-attached the retention mechanism, cpu and gasket assembly.

bad ass. By refresh rate i meant in terms of hz... like normally you can only go 60hz on a lcd, how ever on a crt you can easily do 120hz or more. Meaning a true higher frame rate. (that phase change is nasty, is it a home-made?
___EDIT
RaiZen, you should go the AMD route, run the AM3 socket, on the new denub phenom. You can easily build a quick benchmark system for under 500$, and another 500-600 for a good phase change system.
(not too mention the new phenoms have the OC record. (6.5ghz) (under liquid helium)

I have two lcds, one at my student room and one at "home" (my parents'). Both have costed about 200 euros, but don't have trouble going up to 75Hz

Yea my monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 932GW 19", handles 75Hz as well... cost about R2200, in september last year... now I can get a 19" for 1099, sure doesn't look as nice but still!

I got a 17" lcd @ 1280*1024 (still D-sub) at my student room and the other one is a 19" @ 1280*1024 (can handle both DVI and D-sub), both are from the Acer AL series. By the way, the 17" one is the best of the two, namely the sharpest (off course) and with the best colours.
17": AL 1714
19": AL 1916
P.S: so don't buy huge screens, unless you got a large distance between yourself and the monitor, because the view will be far from superb if you're almost on top of it (asuming you're using a standard desk). And you'll need relatively strong computers to game on that nicely (lcds are crap if you 're below the native resolution too much, and when the native res is huge...).
And of course energy bills get up while refresh rates go down.

I have a tiny 28" 1080P LCD that runs at a refresh of 60Hz @ 1920x1200. It looks pretty good to me
