Looks like a nice kit, isn't the GTS OC almost as much as a GTX?

But isn't 800w alot, you could take a bit lower one, like the corsair 620w

Yes,some DDR3 mobos are out now....for a premium price that is. And according to some Hardware test site which tested them, they are no faster then the DDR2 mobos.
But what you should do, is wait a little longer before purchasing the new Computer, as Intel is lowering the prices on the CPU's on July22. You should be able to get a Quad Core 6600 for $266 then....right now that CPU would cost you around $520.
A Comp with this CPU will most definitely be a better purchase then a DD3 mobo.

The ones i saw had GTX around $100 more, wish I had the money but I dont.
But the bigger power supply is for SLI that may come later.

do apps and stuff benefit from Quad Core right now? i thought there had 2 be some programing or something for it 2 take full advantage.

Some do some don't, but it's always a big performance improvement, if you can you can even assign programs/games to certain cores with windows. :P

I suggest waiting for some results of the new Ati 2900 cards on the latest 7.5 drivers released yesterday. That card has some "new" features onboard that could make a huge difference like Tessellation (not really new, but a technology taken from the 360 architecture). Tessellation is a technology that puts high detail objects onscreen without having to store each individual polygon of that object. This technology is as I said also being used on the 360, too bad it red rings, overheats and dies on you before you can see it in action (I couldn't resist stirring in the poo )

Second there's CFAA (Custom filter anti aliasing). A technology that can be used in any game right now, Tessellation is for the future projects like Crysis and uses simpler boxfilters to get the same results. Kinda boils down to better performance, google yourself for more info. I'd also google the term UVD if you like seeing high def films in the future and doubt if the already outdated Nvidia can handle that a half year or more down the road.

Just wait and see for the objective stats instead of jumping on the bandwagon blindly and making the wrong decision. I already had a short discussion about this on another site and the argument most of them had were that the ati drivers were bad performers and guys who use arguments form 2 years ago are just plain idiots, don't let their opinions matter. Just google and wait for a week or 2-3 and see then before getting a 6 month old card assuming it's new and topnotch.

I am interested in how the 2900 XT will perform with the latest drivers, but it is still rather expensive for its performance. I also don't think the drivers will get better for it overnight. The 8800s are starting to make some good progress with drivers with 158+ and it's taken them so long to get this far. You go back to some of the older drivers in February and you lose over 300 3dmarks and you start to notice some games don't perform as well (I went back to an older driver because there's unfortunately a bug with one of my games with the latest drivers). Not to mention the price dropped off significantly for the 8800 GTS. I got mine for a steal.

I dont like ATI, always gave me troubles. The Anti-Aliasing looks cool and all but ive not found much need of anything above 4x with my new screen.

We live in the present Aka, only the current benchmarks are interesting. You are about to spend several hundreds of dollars on single a piece of hardware for graphics and some type of preference based on older types in a market that changes faster then I do with underwear you might wanna be objective and get the best bang for your buck.

The performance of the current drivers for ati don't look like they are the best yet, but if you put them in line with the state that the 8800 was in back in the day the 2900 owns for sure. As cameraman said the 8800 took half a year to get this far and now you are looking at a card with hardly any more performance increase that's 6 months old. Kinda like buying a new car with a 10 year old engine.

Ati better be fast for me.

Thing i like most about it is that it handles high definition movies on the card, and not only on the processor.
That may be worth looking into, but next to that there's no reason as of yet to buy the card for me. :P
