NVIDIA's drivers aren't so perfect either though. With the 8800s, it's sort of like give and take with the drivers. I find the older 8800 drivers, say January-April, have some of the best compatibility with the games that I've played while the more recent drivers have far better performance but have some issues in certain games. I can't totally speak for their Vista drivers, but I have seen that in certain games and applications, ATI's drivers are doing better. I won't say that ATI's drivers are any better, but I will say that NVIDIA's drivers aren't as good as they used to be.

I think DX10 will be pretty impressive actually. Check these crysis vids from gametrailers- the DX9 vs DX10 ones are awesome, I just hope that's actual gameplay!

I'm still of the opinion that ATI has dropped the ball and buying there
product is crazy. Sure the 2900 is outperforming Nvidia's present mid-range cards. But in the very very near future, Nvidia is going to release there 2ND Generation DX10 cards and ATI won't be able to compete. When this happens all the 8800 cards will drop in price and a 2nd 8800 GTS will be an option to consider for present owners. ATI isn't going to be able to drop and match prices without sacrificing research & development costs. This is going to lead to even worse driver support and slower product development (which is already way behind). The last I heard AMD/ATI plans to start focusing on OEM products for General Usage. Buy what you want, but I'm steering everyone I know away from AMD/ATI. If I did anything else I think karma would just bite me on the ass.

Well really both ATI and NVIDIA aren't up to scratch with dx10 IMO. It's pretty harsh going from 130 average fps in CoH to 40 fps over directx 10. It's not really worth it for such little added details.

Yeah true. I don't know why relic bothered with this dx10 patch though. I was able to max the game out with aa and filtering and still have an average framerate in the 100s. Just by switching it to dx10 and having all AA and filtering disabled, the framerate is in the pits. Yeah, I just got Vista
But I still have XP dual booted :francesco: |

Yah the game runs great without the DX10 enabled, but with it the FPS kinda sucks and I dont see anything like HDR, maybe its just me =/

One comment i do want to make is that i think the 2900XT and the 8800GTS are not mainstream cards. They aren't the creme de la creme ofcourse but they are pretty pricey and give good performance.
More mainstream right now is the 8600GT and the 2600XT ![]()
