500gb drives are a better deal for most people right now, but I imagine prices will drop on 750 and higher capacity drives in the near future.

I really have had no problems with WD. I have had the same WD 250gb hdd for years now without incident.

I own 6 different WD drives at the moment and I've had others.
There always my 1st choice :-)

I have two first generation 80gb Seagate sata drives that are still running fine after years of use. This was the first sata model made I believe.
I've had both Western Digital and Maxtor drives fail equally, but never lost a Seagate.

I've pretty much seen an equal number of drives fail from all manufacturers, so that really doesn't keep me from any particular one. With that said, my next drive will be a Seagate ;)

I am living 6 years with my seagate barracuda 80gb, and it outperforms every other maxtor and wd hdd that is in this rig atm, in coolness, and such.

All HDD manufacturers suffer failures and I happen to work in an environment where I see all types of failures from all manufacturers on a regular basis. Choosing a manufacturer really isn't much of a lottery like it used to be. If you are not buying a high performance Raptor, then the differences between all the other models is very small and of little consequence. Thats why I use WD Raptors for performance drives, especially for my operating systems and better games. My larger longterm storage drives are a blend of large capacity Western Digital Caviar and Maxtor DiamondMax.
