I don't lurk around much, but I got a Dell Catalog the other day, They had a XPS laptop in there, 2 gigs of ram, 250 gigs of hard drive space, and i'm not to sure on the video card, but can easily be replaced! So, in my opinion, XPS is the way to go. [Saw it for $1,000, but they had a $30 payment plan special.]

I have been using a Sharp 3D Notebook
It's pretty sweet. It came with the nVidia graphics and everything.
I'm sure their stuff is better now. If I could only afford another

The xps is just a name, you can get a dell inspiron with the same hardware and save yourself a few hundred. I game on an inspiron 1520 with a Nvidia 8600 (i believe), it has 256mb of ram. It runs great and rightn ow costs about 1800 with a couple of upgrades.

Watch that payment plan thing though man 29.9% interest will kill you.

Stay clear from Dell if you can, because their build quality has nose-dived over the last 6 months.

Alienware Area51s are nice, but they are huge, heavy and run extremely hot. They are also very expensive and you can better deals elsewhere.

HP are quite good and the build quality is really good and solid.

Here is a spec based on the dv9500t. It has DX10 graphics, Dualcore CPU and RAID0, with loads of sweet accessories and backpack!
