My lappy makes me feel happy!
It has costed me 999 Euros, here are the most important specs: - Acer Aspire 7520 402G32Mi - AMD Turion x2 dual core (1.9 GHz per core, 2x 512Mb L2 cache) - 256 Nvidia GeForce 8400M Go Turbocache - 2 GB DDR2 RAM - 2x 160 GB Hard drive(s) - number keys on the right available (most laptops lack those) - 17" widescreen (crystalbrite) Not bad for that price, is it?

Well, the site doesn't work at the moment of writing. But what is the shocking thing I would be seeing on kieskeurig.nl? Several stores sold it for 999 euro, so it cannot be the price (including stuff like "verzendkosten"). Acer is doing well in the tests, so I guess it isn't their build quality.

The cheapest one retails at 902 Euro including shipping and taxes. That's quite a difference from my point of view. A 90 Euro difference as GM2 already pointed out. That would have given you an notebook case, mouse and additional warranty for roughly the same price.

Well it could be a lot worse and a sub €1000 laptop with a 17" screen is a bargain nontheless.
I have 2 laptops, but they are non-gaming specification. My main one is a HP Compaq nx7300 with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD and Intel GMA 950 GFX and is really something I just use for general SYSAdmin to the Datacentre, VMWare and E-Mail. It usually stays docked at work, because I prefer my other notebook when I am on the move/commuting to work. My other notebook is an ultra mobile Dell Latitude D430 that ways less the 2Kg. It is a similar spec to my HP Compaq, but has a smaller HDD. I run SuSe as the primary OS and I keep all my pr0n on it and stuff I want to hide from the missus.

By the way, I always configure my mouses quite sensitively. So when on the move (and thus using the touchpad), I would have to reconfigure the mousesettings into medium speed. So using a mouse is not really something I will do as long as the touchpad is suitable enough.

The (and AMD rules) caught my attention. You must be
in a Time Warp. And I'm not saying your AMD powered Lappy is crap. Nowadays any modern CPU is capable of excellant performance. But AMD does not rule, it will be some time before that happens again :-)

I started with an AMD K6, at the moment of writing am I using my Athlon64 system and my lappy runs a dual core Turion. Once you have chosen for AMD, you simply prefer it to anything else. My father, a real "Inteller", thinks of choosing AMD (for his next pc) as well. I guess I can not help it I'm a fan! ![]()

Yeah, but what you don't seem to understand is that slay and I are hardware geeks. We move from platform to platform quite quickly and that means we always choose the best performing parts. AMD do not have the best mobile or workstation solutions at the moment. Sure they are cheap, but thats only because they have had to drop prices, because anyone who knows their CPUs buys an intel.
Price/Performance per Watt... I think you find the Core2Duo kicks the Turions butt! The Turion is a cheap ass chip with absolutely no bollox whatsoever. I think its good for Outlook and Firefox and thats about it! ![]()
