Here is the card I am getting today. VGA EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR 8800GTX R
Now being the impatient guy that I am I was wondering if someone could post instructions on installing this card from a 7900 GT. My friend is coming over at 7pm to install it but I will be sitting there looking at it at 2pm. I know you have to remove the old video drivers and then install the card. Is this difficult? Can a noobie like myself break something? Any info would be great thanks! |

I advise to first download the latest Nvidia drivers here, so you have them sitting on your desktop waiting to be installed. Remove your old drivers from config>software and turn off your pc. Open your case, take out any necessary screw that keeps your card stuck to your case, take it out and insert your new card. Also don't forget to plug the powercords into the back of your videocard, an often overlooked detail. The old and new card might be a bit difficult to pull out or insert. Don't get scared by that, if a videocard would go in extremely easy, it would also disconnect very easy so don't get scared to give it a small yet firm push.
Then turn on your pc, install your new drivers, reboot again and you are set to go.

Yikes! Don't play around with the internals until you are sure you know what you are doing.
Do you have two spare PCI-Express power connectors? You need to know that before you remove your 7900!

Hmm, it doesn't really take a rocket scientist to insert a videocard GM2. In fact, it extremely easy and your new pc should have enough spare connectors. There should also be one that came with your card.
Anyhow, you could always wait for your friend or look at video or look at the picture for reference. ![]() This being said, I do fully support GM2 with his advice to not play with things you don't know. However, there's a first time for everything and if I didn't take a risk in my teenage years and went ahead with experimenting with sex I'd still be a virgin, same goes for anyhting in life. You have to try it. This wise lesson of live has been brought to you by Gazz of the Gazz foundation, we (being the almighty Gazz and the multiple voices in his head) specialize in making comments with little or no relevance to topics and do that free of charge. Hallelujah, praise the Gazz
