As most of you have heard by now Warner bros has gone Blu ray exclusive and have dragged Fox and Disney along to their side Link . Only Paramount and Universal now exclusively back HD dvd and even Paramount has been rumored to get out of their exclusive hd dvd contract now Link.
So after this war is over and HD dvd is left twitching on the ground with just a few releases left for them, it's time to see what this war has brought us. Nothing I tell ya, all it did was bring out 2 formats of which HD dvd was completely inferior from the start and now we can be sure that all the money lost due to this pointless war will be earned back by raising the prices of Blu ray to cover expenses. Sure there will be better products then Blu ray in the future, but these will be postponed to get some profit out of this generation. Thank you Toshiba and Microsoft for meddling in a war you were bound to lose anyway and jacking up the prices for us you assholes

Why the hell does everybody think Blu ray is by Sony alone? Philips, Matsushita, Sony, Samsung, LG, Apple, Thomson, Pioneer, Hitachi, Sharp and Mitsubishi are joint responsible for it and they made the right choice.
The blame goes to hd dvd, they released an inferior product with the sole purpose of pressing out a superior format and all they ultimately achieved were thousands of customers with a hd dvd player that can only be used for upscaling dvd's now. Once again another war has been fought at the expense of the customer and once again the name Microsoft pops up. Edit: New line interactive also went Blu ray exclusive ![]()

Sure you are! ![]() BTW, HD movies fit on a DVD, using the DivX 6 codec. But of course the film industries etc. don't wish to pay royalties to the company behind DivX. Instead, they invest billions in something we have to pay astronomous amounts of money for. While most consumers didn't even ask for products like that. Additionally, I am now still "ignoring" the fact that a lot of people never heard of HD/Blue-ray/HD-DVD at all. And for data, it is much more handy to use an external HDD, instead of burning a completely new disk every time the content changes (e.g. back-ups). So I can say I do not feel the need for Blue-ray or HD-DVD at all at the moment of writing.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe that downloadable movies are the way to the future, although there will be a small market that will choose having a solid item like a dvd or blu ray in their hands instead of some data on a disc. What worries me is that the HD dvd group just forced the blu ray group (which were going to win from the start anyway) to invest too much money in a product that was meant to be a temporary solution to demand in better hd images anyway.
What we ended up with was a product meant for early adapters to be thrown onto a mass market that wasn't ready for it as many of the comments here underline. Beside that all eleven major companies that form the blu ray group had to put too much funds into this and this will delay the arrival of any future products like holographic media.
