According to a german hardware site here are some early specs of the upcoming Radeon 4XXX cards.
![]() Source Looks pretty good overall. Less than 20W power consumption at idle is pretty cool.

Nice, I was just about to post that. ATI seem to be heading into the right direction with their new budget line cards which give a real bang for the buck. Signs already became apparent after their highly successful, yet underrated 1950 pro and after the 2*** line, they really started to roll on with the 3*** line which still gives consumers great price/quality performance.
Great to see ATI stooping the lost battle with Nvidia for the high end market and focussing slightly below them. Those cards are supposed to be with G-DDR 5 memory I read in that source report.

The right strategy for AMD for now, I would say.

That is pretty nice. Considering the Nvidia 9000 series is going to be a worthy adversary, ati must come forth with a decent opposition. The 4000 series looks impressive, but so did the the 3800 one, and it still didn't beat the 8800 series of nvidia. It was cheap and effective though, the ati strategy ever since. Hopefully this new series will be as well.
Cheers! |

There is nothing about those specs that will intimidate Nvidia. All of those parts are limited by the 256-bit ringbus architecture, regardless of the 4870X2.
Nvidia's dual-GPU GeForce 9800 GX2 will kick its ass to kingdom come and then the 9800GTX will still be the most powerful single-core solution. ATI will be fighting the 9800 GT entry level - $150 market. AMD do not have the financial muscle to take anybody on at the moment so will play it safe and boring... ... yet again! BTW, Nvidia 9800 X2 is due out in a few weeks, March 11th to be precise. I already got the money in the bank! Crysis with 8xAA here I come baby! |

A computer is as fast as your hard disk, processor and RAM are, if you get my meaning. So I wonder if you'll be able to get the maximum capacity out of that cards...
