Unless you can save enough money to wait for the new 9800GTX card, I would say look ofr an 8800GTX first then get the GTS or GT card if you can't afford the others. From what I've seen so far, the 9600 cards aren't that spactacular compared. JM2CW.

I take that to mean the "no gravity" part. Where you have to find your way out of the alien stronghold?

So it is like I expected. The 8800GT is quicker then that OC 9600. Thanks for the info

The 9800GTX is only marginally faster than a 8800GTX, and the 8800GTX is faster in some instances, but not many.

Also, as I understand it, the 9800GTX, 8800GT and the new 8800GTS all use the same silicon (gpu chipset). So they are all basically the exact same thing, only some of the shaders have been disabled and they are clocked differently. And they are using different memory modules, but that's a given.

I strongly recommend the 8800GT, I've seen more than one or two of them run just as fast as a 8800GTX in 3DMark06. And while it is just a Benchmark, it does give a good indication of it's performance for most games in General.

Hell, this 7800GTX I have even runs Crysis pretty well in DX9 mode. That is, since I don't have Vista I can't run it in DX10.

That doesn't surprise me at all. The Crysis demo run at about 12 fps on my system (with merely a GF 6200 SE turbocache). At that moment I had only 1 GB of RAM, of which a part had to be assigned as extra memory for the video card (that has only 64 MB for its own). So your 7800GTX should obvuiously be able to handle it.
Yet, it will be a better "investment" for me, if I buy a current generation card.

You are certainly right there. A more current card is a better idea if you have the money for it. I was only pointing out that the 7800GTX could handle it well, so the 8800 cards should do a good job too.

It's from a dutch company, so RMA shouldn't take that long

The latter is 169 euro on Komplett.nl, and includes 2 DVI to D-sub adapters. So this one is a better deal then the POV card Magus pointed to (my good old D-sub screen gives a way better view then the one I got with DVI).
