Default Asus Xonar Series and alternative soundcards

Has anyone any experience with Asus' Xonar series of sound cards? I am kind of pissed off with my Realtek HD that came with the mainboard and I am looking for something higher quality. I want to avoid Creative Hardware for the obvious reasons (horrible drivers, support) so I am looking around for alternatives. The Asus Xonars look very decent for the price, but I don't know about driver support etc. Are there any other alternatives?

Usage: Watching DVDs, Music (mp3) and Gaming. I have Logitech Z-2300, 2.1 THX-Certified speakers, no surround setup.

Any advice?

As far as I've heard they're great for the money. They don't support some of the more advanced x-fi stuff, but they can probably do what you need

About your music: as long as it is on your pc and not your Ipod (or other player), I advice you to use .wma instead of mp3. At a bitrate of 160 Kbps it is sounding a bit better than mp3 at 192 Kbps (though it may also depend on the music), while it is much more compact. Sounds great even on a pc with a Realtek onboard solution (talking out of experience with that) .
