Lots of people have trouble with it, as it seems on the ATI forum. Performance drops and in the worst case BSODs. So I will wait until 8.12 I think.

Hey guys I am back again... been busy "studying for exams"... ;)

I have now dropped my card back to stock settings and my CPU to ~2.5... all is stable under XP Pro... but don't get me started on vista... first I nearly lost all my games installed because I was organizing partitions to install it on... then I got it back... now half the games don't work... GREAT! (Sarcastic) I now have to reinstall all my games... and ATI drivers are still a problem in VIsta... does ATI even care? OR are they only in it for the money???

ANyway... I have entered the razer gaming mouse pad comp... pls take a look and let me know wat you think... THanks

C4N.... (Cheers for now)

Like I stated in the latter post of mine in this thread, the only Catalyst version being a bit decent at the moment is version 8.10.

And be careful when partioning your HDD: always defragment first, then make an "image" of the entire disk, and then repartition with preferably a bootable cd like this one: SourceForge.net: Files

My experience is that you should never mess with Windows as long as it runs fine. Because in the Microsoft Dictionary of English (Sarcasm mode) the verb "to mess" is a synonym for "to mess up". Compared to GNU/Linux, Windows is sooo fragile.

Anyway I don't think that Vista is that pretty, you should see my Darkroom theme in Ubuntu 8.10. Looks a lot better.

Darkroom is one of the themes available by default in 8.10 (beside Human, the standard theme).
And I think you messed up because of your dual boot with both Vista and XP. I think you need to do manual partitioning (instead of the other methods the installer gives), thus add an ext3 partition (for Ubuntu) and a swap partition (for the "virtual memory").

I am member of this Dutch Ubuntu forum, though assuming you're English-speaking you should try this one: Ubuntu Forums

BTW, I have to tell you that in my case I have video playback issues when the Compiz desktop effects (desktop cube, window previews like in Vista, wobbly windows etc.) are enabled. I didn't take the effort yet to solve it, but there is a solution available afaik.
You have the same graphics card as I have, so you may have to check that ubuntu forums to solve issues you may get. At least, you may have to if you want to use the Compiz-Fusion effects (for which you need an additional program). The "basic" looks shouldn't be troublesome.

Anyway, I advise you to take a little safari through that forums before trying anything.
