Default Problem Overclocking ATI 4850

Hi there

I have an ATI Radeon 4850 and did have it overclocked on windows XP 32 but then I had to reinstall and it would not let me overclock anymore. Now I am running Vista Ultimate 32bit and I still can not get it to overclock... I don't know why any more. All that happens is I click the auto tune feature and the PC Hangs after about a min (if not less) I restart and all is fine. But I can't do any manual overclocking either...

I have the 8.10 drivers installed if that helps at all...

Thanks in advance for any help...

Maybe you have a reached the "magic" limit or surpassed it before, and damaged your hardware, cant you make a XP-vista dual boot to test it?

To see if it still clocks on XP?

I got an error like this when i pushed my videocard+cpu bit to much, and tested it in a game, after that it kept freezing ever since i overclock it....

Waiting for new parts anyway so

You need to overclock one item at a time. The 1st thing you need to do is to stabilize your system. Set everything to stock and start by updating your bios and all your drivers to the newest version available.

Heat is the main problem encountered with all overclockers. What type of heatsinks are you using and do you have good ventilation?

Power is the next big problem overclockers run into. As you increase the speed of your hardware your also increasing the power it uses. So your system may run fine at stock speeds with a 400 watt power supply but when you overclock it, it crashes because it now needs 450 watts. And the increased power useage is why the system gets hotter.

It would be alot easier to help you if you listed your complete system spec's and stock settings.
