PC Speakers
Hey ppl, i would like to ask you something!
i am about to buy new speakers for my PC and i went looking around for some affordable and powerful speaker setup and i found these Logitech G51 and Logitech Z-2300, they are different from each other one is surround and other is stereo but both have power but i don't know which one to buy.
one is THX certified other is nicer to play games and is surround...
Can you help me decide?
Thank you all.

Speakers are worthless without a good soundcard. Creative's x-fi line has some very affordable cards these days and their driver support has been awesome as of recently (even with Linux support these days). Anyone who tells you otherwise is stuid (pokes at himself)
There's ones simple thing you have to remember when choosing between Logitech and Creative. In general Logitech wins with better bass and Creative wins with higher tones. I personally choose Creative myself since high tones are way more important and the bass is already excellent.

With surround, X-Fi is a nice card to have, though just not needed, unless you really got the money. Next to that it's not really that vital or anything, onboard is pretty good these days and if you're a real audiophile you wouldn't even go near computer speakers and X-Fi.

Logitech is a good brand, I have their Keyboard and Mouse.
I also agree that you need a half decent sound card if you are going to get some decent speakers. If you are on a Budget I would get the Sound Blaster Audigy 4 but if you are a real sound fan the X-Fi is the best buy.
As for the Speakers I would suggest the 5.1 setup and then make sure you set them up right around you for the ultimate experience. For a 5.1 setup i would aim for a $150 price bracket if you are a gamer, so should more than keep you happy.
To me 5.1 is important, especially in shooters where many sounds are going on all the time. This setup helps to separate these sounds to all be separated to different speakers and can give the edge in playing the games.
On board sound chips are now quite capable of delivering decent 5.1 Sound in most cases but the Sound card just delivers it faster and the sounds are just that bit crisper.

I have the Hercules XP510 5.1 speakers which are great and have heaps of base. These work with any Creative sound card. You can also pump up the base via a dial on the Woofer too if you still want more base.
I have had these for nearly four years now and they are strong, you can probably find them for $120 - 150 now, i spent $300 on them when i got mine.
Check out their site for more details.

You could also try a seperate surround receiver, with a FAT basswoofer and connect it with optical cable to your X-fi gamer.
And a real X-fi blasts on-board sound totally away, i mean totally, if not, then you did something wrong i guess...
Myself happen to use a 5.1 5× 100 watt receiver + 100 watt basswoofer and Creative T7700,... ofcourse the receiver is the best...
Now i have the receiver on 2.1 stereo setup, but in combination with my X-fi fatality i still got surround sound, and super quality and can hear exacly where sounds are coming from
Dead Space anyone?

Sigh, this is just the type of comment one could expect from a person who does not have a good soundcard, but has to get by with the tin sound and bleached performance of an onboard.... Listening to that is.... Well, this picture sums it up quite nicely:

Gazz, I have HD audio and Logitech X-210 speakers. And really, the sound is not that bad. The only real disadvantage I experience, is that I got 2.1 which can be disadvantegous in shooters due to the lesser "sound localisation". Yet, it is definitely not "tin sound", maybe not the extreme top end in quality but not bad at all.
