Default Help with SLI vs Crossfire

Hey guys, this is actually a post to help a friend who is wanting to upgrade his PC.

He wants a motherboard that can support 2 4850s ( buying one now and a second later), but now him and me are bit confused bout how the SLI and crossfire works.

I not sure what mobos have to say to know if they support ATI crossfire or Nvidia SLI or if they just support both from the beginning.

Thanks for the help!

What does a 4870X2 cost in SA? May be cheaper then two 4850s (though I am not certain about that). Or at least it is the easiest solution.

lol... yea but its like double the price of 2 4850s... The 4850 is about R2400 and the 4870x2 is about R7500.... a lot more! It sucks... but yea anyway.

OK. What does the manual of the motherboard say about it?

Is he going to build a Intel or AMD based system? Intel I hope. If he's building a Intel i7 system he'll want a X58 chipset which can support SLI or Crossfire. The problem is, not all manufacturers enabled support for both. If you could post some links to the boards that fall into your budget I could help you better. And more info on the system's other components.

Hello dear potential 4850 buyer whom is low on cash, meet the new upcoming HD4750! Only 99,- USD/ 89 Euro Radeon HD 4750 RV740 review | preview |test

This card will also mean that Nvidia will drop it's price on the overpriced 9800 which is about freaking time.

The only motherboards which support both Crossfire and SLI are some models of x58 boards designed for Intel core i7 processors.
