Onboard Sound vs Sound Card in HL2.

Well some weeks ago there was a thread on onboard sound discussion, which was locked to due to an unnamed someone flaming it. That someone kept asking for benchmarks, and I and others provided them, but since the latest ones I could find were from 2004 Toms and they were still benching games like Q3 and Splinter Cell, that someone disregarded those as old games and the results as useless, saying it has no effect on perfmance while not posting any evidence supporting his claims. He wanted new games? Well I was checking Gamespot and ran across this. http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-S...body_pagenum=8 HL2 new enough for yeh? 14% FPS lose across soundcards. That falls into the noticable block for me. ANd this was on a powerful computer too. Tested with the most powerful hardware on the market today. and a decently powerful Realtek onboard card.

A shame the Soundstorm chip wasn't included in the test, I think it would've performed on par with the audigy.

pfffttt ya no doubt! the guy comes back a week later and starts crying about this sound card business again.....wtf

and dude the benchmarks your showing to us are like 66 fps-75-78......wow what a huge difference man, that would be totally unoticeable........lol, maybe if it was like a diffrence of 30 fps-75 or 66, then you might actually notice in game.
...........pointless garbage for sure.
