In order for him to have 2 GFX (Nvidia 6800 ultra) connected using SLI tech he must have a motherboard that supports it, which he doesn't ... that means buying a new comp
However, you can get the 6800 Ultra Extreme version, which is slightly faster than the ultra. Regarding Radeon, the X850 "##" (something) should be also available soon, correct me if i am wrong.

i would go for the 6800 Ultra, if you want you can buy a second later for SLi
![]() ![]() , i dunno if you have a AMD 64 but....and besides, the Geforce cards are much more reliable ![]() and about the Sli story, there's an article on most of the tech-sites about Sli working on Non-sli MOBO's

i order to use SLi you need the fallowing: 1-a mobo w/ 2 pci-e slots 2-that mobo has to support SLi 3-2 vid cards that are pci-e and support the SLi funtion the 6800 ultra comes in 3 flavors: agp (this is the only one he can use!) pci-e pci-e w/ SLi support he can only use agp, so forget about buying a card later for your current rig. so go buy buy a good agp card. or wait it out and buy a new rig with a SLi graphics system :Oo: |

Huh!!!! Im not interested in SLI cos ive got an agp motherboard, so back to the topic. Which do you all think I should get x800 xt pe (agp) or 6800 ultra (agp). Please explain why and back your decision with reasons for picking that graphics card.
Thanks. |

I would go with a 6800U, and my reason is Shader Model 3.0
The two opposing cards are pretty much the same but, SM3.0 is nice to have and looks ******* great  http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjA5 |

ATI gpu run directx game better and runs higher frames better under full AA and AF
but has weaker overall frame rate with no AA or Af then nVIDIA. nVIDIA gpu run opengl games better and run lower frames under full AA and AF but has stronger overall frame rate with no AA or Af then nVIDIA. in addition check what card brand supports what game example: a game supported by ATi will in most cases run better on an ATi chip set then nVIDIA ect. ect. ect. if you need all the pixel shading madness you can handle go for a 6800 since its the onlly card to currently support SM3.0. anyone correct me if i am wrong |

The only REAL difference that may come as a concern to you is the HEAT, see the 6800 has 222 Million Transistors comparing to ATI's 160 Million, meaning that the 6800 will produce greater heat than the ATI series card resulting in a very hot piece of machine unless you have some good cooling moreover if you like to over clock it. For conclusion, if you have good cooling an a lot of space in your case (since the 6800 is ..BIG) get a 6800 U. If you don't have as much space nor massive cooling, simply go for the X800 XT PE. They are both great cards.
