Apparently, some "Club 3D" X800XT Plats come in 2-3 days at Tekheads.co.uk for Â£346. Dunno how far you can trust Club 3D, or whether they're all already reserved. Otherwise they had some Sapphire ones in last week, but they're all gone, maybe they'll get more soon. Thats as much as I could find.

Id go for one of these for a here and now solution, which I reckon will last a good year at the least, hehe. A measly year.. bastages.

2 things.

I didn't read the inital post.
the answer is: 3Dc, its normal map compression, normal maps(used by hl2, dc, d3) can be compressed with 3Dc to keep the quality high and the frame rates quick.
Also SM3.0 is going into ATi cards with the R520.

2. 6800U is rarer then the X800XTs.
