Radeon 9800 pro failure!!

I have the Ati card. Im ready to stick my gforce 4 back in, i know the graphics arnt as good but maybe i wont crash every 10 min in gameplay, now in windows aswell.
its says vpu bla bla bla card not responding. Im almost wondering if my motherboards agp slot is toast or something.

my sapphire 9800 pro runs perfectly fine on a 350 oem psu from a no name brand case, the day i got the 9800 i had the computer on all day and played CSSource at all max settings with 2xAA and 16xAF and a good bit of warcraft3 on EotA maps, which are really "demanding" as far as warcraft goes... i havent had a single "hangup" and btw noobman whats wrong with sapphire and why would u say it is "worthless" ... and where did u get the word trade, i beleive a trade refers to a transaction or a skill, perhaps the word you were looking for was "make and model" .. you know as in make-saphire model-9800PRO

then again i have an amd 64 3000 and avoid intel like the plague... seriously... amd 64 2800+ is cheaper than a 2.5 ghz pentium 4 and is waaaaaay better in performance, the 3000+ i have is a dream and overclocks with ease.


havent tried overclocking my 9800 tho, only have one case fan that sort of hovers directly over the processor as a good exhaust, i dont trust my stock cooler for overclocking that 9800.... not that i need any overclocking.

a radeon 9800 pro shouldnt have 40 fps in cs source. im a cs newb and serouisly handcapped with this peice of crap videocard.

Mebvis , did you over clocked your card or your CPU ?

If not, try uninstalling the drivers and get the new ones out there for ATI (i don't know which, i'm Nvidia user sorry )

Has bad as this sounds, I'd just do a complete format. Save yourself a lot of time and aggrivation looking for the problem.

Ive formated my drive a few times, and even tried it with suse 9.1 under cedega point to play. The mb is out of the icecube vl67 i took the board out of the small pc cause it gets way to hot for the 9800 pro. Never buy the icecubepc not for gaming. Ive actually put my gforce 4 4200 back in and it runs better than my 9800 pro did, not as nice graphics mind you but atleast it doesnt crash ever 10 min

Is it poor circulation inside your case? Maybe the 9800 gets to hot for the little case, and the computer crashes? I could be way off, just some ideas since you already formatted. I also have a problem with my 9600XT not working in a pc ( a7vn266 motherboard).

Yeah putting my geforce 4200 back in resulted in assive fsp loss causing me to get my ass kicked in cs source. um i had a case with very very poor cooling i believe it to have caused dammage on my first radeon 9800 pro. i had the card replaced and when i got it back i got a great case costed me 250 $ the cooling is great so thats completely ruled out as a possibility.

I called ati costumer service and they told me to update my chipset drivers because my agp controller version was 5.0.1006.0 1/15/2003. i have updated the drivers with intels latest update and the driver remained to be the same even after a complete reformat 1st thing installed. Yeah it didnt help. I do not overclock.

Hey everyone im glad to say i have resolved the problem by replacing my motherboard the fic vl67 icecube pc. The boards agp slot wasnt working well with my Radeon 9800 pro. Dont buy a smallform factor pc if you plan on hardcore gamming. thanks for your help .
