Hey, I am from England and I need some advice/help.

I have customised a packaged with Demonite computers and this sounds pretty juicey:

WINDOWS XP Home

Asus P4C800 Deluxe Motherboard (P4)

2048mb DDR400 Memory

200 Gigabyte Serial ATA HDD

16X DVD ROM & 1.44 FDD (Floppy)

NEC DVD WRITER 3500 16x Dual Layer

256mb Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra

19 inc SVGA Colour monitor

Soundblaster Audigy 7.1 Sound Card

Sub-woofer speakers

ethernet, modem, optical mouse, keyboard.

3 years on-site & 2 years RTB labour

It's a very good deal I think for the price, but if you add a CPU onto that it just JACKS the price up LOADS.

Does anyone know if I can just buy my own CPU and fit it in? How would I know what ones would work?

I had a look around:

Intel Pentium® 4 550 3.4GHz 800FSB LGA 775 CPU with 1MB Cache Retail inc.Fan

Intel Pentium® 4 3.2GHz Prescott (800MHz) 1MB cache Retail inc.Fan

Would these work?

Please help! Thanks

Yes both chips will work fine. they are both run on the 800MHz CPU front-side bus interface and HT technology so you will be gaining the benefit of the board featureset aswell.

I think you should make sure you get a Socket 478 CPU for that MOBO.
As far as I know the Intel Pentium 4 550 3.4GHz 800FSB LGA 775 CPU with 1MB Cache
is a Socket 775 (T) CPU not a Socket 478 CPU. Also the Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz Prescott (800MHz) 1MB cache seems to come in 2 different versions one being Socket 478 the other Socket 775.

I don’t know if it is retailers making different names or if Intel is just making many CPUs with similar names…
Only I do recall a Intel 3.2EGHz 1MB L2-Cache 800MHz Socket 478 P4 Microprocessor, w/ HSF, Prescott Core.

Hell you could go ahead and try to slap a 775 CPU into a 478 MOBO.

This is an AMAZING computer I am buying isnt it?

One problem: They dont sell it without the processor (because they cant 'test' it) so my idea is down the drain.

The processor jacks it up £1500 (which is about $3000) when I could get my own for SO much cheaper.

Ah well...

Does anyone know of any other low priced, but not bad quality, PC companies or sellers?

Just one thing. Get Xp PRO! And I would try to get an AMD socket 939 with Winchester core instead but maybe they don't offer it. Most don't

Xp pro sucks! All you get is an extra little recovery tool.
Oh, and the booting up loading bar is blue instead of green

Xp Pro don't suck! And I don't use themes so I don't see the colors. XP theme looks like a sandpapering disney movie!

For the love of God build your own computer. Go to frys or newegg.com, and Youll save 1000's of dollars. My computer is basically equal to what you listed, but with some better parts and one slightly worse and i built it fully loaded for 600 bucks. The only thing my computer had that was worse is the CPU(P4 Prescott 2.8ghz HT) but its overclocked to 3.2ghz so theyre bascially the same. BUILD UR OWN, ITS EASY.
