about the loss of performance in HL2
this is what ive noticed, and i really love it: i typcialy play at 1280x1024 everything high except medium textures, no AA, and 4XAF, on some maps my FPS flies over the 100s, so i use de aztec, my worst fps map in the lot of them, which is average 50 fps while standing in the water, 60 fps far away looking at water, and 80 to 100 fps elsewhere with the new driver my fps gets about the same, but alot of choke situations that give suden sharp drops of fps that shoot back up to normal but are noticeable at this settings stress test: average 75 FPS however; 1024x768 everything high - medium textures - this time 4X anti aliasing, 16X anisotropic, DE aztec gets no choke situations, average fps on the water is 70, elsewhere 90 to 120 stress test - average 98 FPS at this setting the game looks AMAZING compared to zero AA and 4x aniso at 1280, and the performance is flawless , Splinter Cell (yes the demo, fool) typicaly i played at 1024x768 with 1XAA and 2x anisotropic and medium shadow resolution, in the starting area, 30 fps flat, 40 fps in the closed in cave space, 35 fps in the bridge area, after the new driver 1024x768, 2X anti aliasing, 16X anisotropic, medium shadow res, 35 fps in starting area(thsi is next to the ocean, on the beach) 80 fps in caves, 45-50 fps in the bridge area hope this helps some people! by the way, nothing is overclocked after the new driver, as i expected, even my CPU and Ram went to default clocks, i havent overclocked them since, so all this new performance is also on default clock speeds!
