Being an experienced A+ tech specialising in high end gameing machines, allow me to assure you that it's definitely possible, and I'd even go as far as to say likely, that your sound is to blame there. A Nividia 6600 GT will run CS:S turn right up without even breaking a sweat. If you have a sound card what is it, and if not, what's the mobo make and model? I'll have a look if you like. It seems with the limited amount of feedback currently available for CS:S, (to me anyway) it doesn't seem to like onboard at all, particularly 16-bit. As I believe was stated already, if your sound is onboard, see if there's a chipset update available, and if it's PCI check the manufacturers site for a driver or firmware update. B)

yeah im mostly thinking its a sound problem cause ive had a 6800gt and played cs:s since it came out and never gave me any problems. If you dont have a soundcard you should invest in one cause onboard audio always gave me trouble when i didnt have a soundcard.i bought an audigy 2 and everything started working fine with most of my games.

Wow thanks for that help! (And everyone else)

But sadly I don't have a sound card in my computer, it has to be an integrated one. And I have no idea how to update it because I dont have a load of CD roms with all my drivers on it, I just have one formatting disc (Floppy A) that simply tells the computer to reformat, nothings actually on it.

On the contrary of you soundcard suggestion, it still jams on Battle for Middle Earth when there is a battle going on, and it still jams on CSS that has nothing to do with sound, its just video jamming still.

Would could be wrong? I have the 71.89_win2kxp_english thing installed so wtf is going on?!?

to rule out the option of a sound problem, disable the onboard sound in the bios
also you could try to install another videocard, to see if the problems remains or not.

Have you checked to see if any drivers are missing?

Good suggestion! Try disabling the sound.

Nvidea GT cards have a problem that is well known by nvidea: The card gets extreme overheated by high hardware demand(basicly when the card has to do more than just pullig out a 3 polygone model). You need to get a better cooler for the card and that's it.

I have never had any problems with my 6800gt, 420/1280 clock stock cooling, so I doubt its a "Nvidia" problem. Probably somthing on the user-end. I play CS:S hours on end, I might hit 80*c.

O...M...G I spent WEEKS researching the 6600 GT and everyone was always like "Just get it, just get it" and I KNEW that there would be something wrong with it, why didn't anyone say that the GT sucks and overheats?

Ok I might take it back, no, I AM going to take it back, so does anyone recommend THE BEST (as in > the most powerfull without jamming to f***) video card available for £130? I dont mind what brand, oh and it has to be AGP.

Any ideas?? The reason I am replieing to this thread now is because CSS has just TOTALY jammed to hell, THREE times within the space fo 15 minutes. I cant bear it,
