Get a better cooler. That's what some do but most returned it and got another card.
Not all GTs have that problem but appearently alot of them. Out of all the people i know who got one, EVERY SINGLE ONE had that problem.

Nvidea GT cards have a problem that is well known by nvidea: The card gets extreme overheated by high hardware demand(basicly when the card has to do more than just pullig out a 3 polygone model). You need to get a better cooler for the card and that's it.
O...M...G I spent WEEKS researching the 6600 GT and everyone was always like "Just get it, just get it" and I KNEW that there would be something wrong with it, why didn't anyone say that the GT sucks and overheats?

Ok I might take it back, no, I AM going to take it back, so does anyone recommend THE BEST (as in > the most powerfull without jamming to f***) video card available for £130? I dont mind what brand, oh and it has to be AGP.

Any ideas?? The reason I am replieing to this thread now is because CSS has just TOTALY jammed to hell, THREE times within the space fo 15 minutes. I cant bear it, [/b][/quote]
God theres nothing wrong with your card - everything points to sound drivers. Disable it in the BIOS and play for a while, then see if problem repeats if it does, then you have eliminated the sound issue, if it dosent you have localised the problem.

Then you try and fix it by doing whatever, updating mobo drivers whatever

buy a teahate SBlive 5.1 (NOT VALUE) for like 20 dollars or whatever

Matt is just a nervous nancy. Im sure theres many other 6600gts' out there that run all those games with no problems. Format your computer and try again, im sure its on the user end.

Omg matt, try to cool down once in a life will you?

just disable the damn onboard sound from the BIOS* and play the game as you were if you had sound, that should point out that it's the onboard sound problem, and therefore all you got left to do is go to the motherboard manufacture site and look for your mobo, once done, update the drivers for it. (It should be there)

*If you don't know how to disable it from the BIOS, ask a friend to help you, or go to Device Manager under hardware in System properties, you will find your sound controller under "sound, video and game controllers" or under "other devices" named usually "multimedia audio controller" select it and Disable it (you will find the button at the tool bar)

Another option is that your pc is sandpapering messed up inside, open the case and check if your card not surrounded by any massive cables or stuff that blocks the air circulation and card cooling. (a free PCI slot under the card is recommended)
If it is indeed full of wires and cables, try to rearrange them so they will not interfere with other pc components and block the air circulation. (Do it while the pc is off ...)

Don't listen to Kami, he is just here to spam, that's his job :P

BTW Kru, I use the 5.1 Value and I don't have any problems NOW (infect it's a superb card...once you know what drivers you need), I had problems with it when I first got it years ago, it was acting teahatty and messing up games. After I finely understood how and what I needed to make it work like it suppose to, it has shown only good results ever since.
The trick is to find the CURRECT drivers for this card. After browsing Creative site, and reading all I had to know about every single update...and there were many, I chose the one's I was needed to download, about 25mb in total, including a player which also contains some patches, but you don't have to use it and it doesn't take up much space.

P.S.
Why did you choose the Gigabyte one? Knowing it has a pathetic cooler, and I didn't suggest it to you I even excluded it first time you tolled us to look at the cards that you found. (the only good thing I can remember is the memory send/receive speed ... )
