Well, first of do you use a Router/Splitter or do you direct connect?
If you direct connect the 2 PCs you need a different kind of cable. And there was something with a certain IP both PCs gotta have. ![]()

well unfortunately enough I don't have a router, so I have to direct connect, I have this strange cable with at both ends the same strange round head, so I connected them both to the hole they fit into approxamitelly next to the tv out for the screen.
am I doing it right? ![]() |

L.O.L. ah the n00b mistakes...reminds me in my younger days.
Well, for an direct connect you need a crossover cable and not the regular one. It looks the same as the regular one but the lines are...you guessed it...crossed over. Then you need to put in a working IP. They must be identical on both PCs but the last section. For example: you have: 123.321.213.01 she should have:123.321.213.02 But it must be a working IP ![]()

What OS are both PCs? Cos with WinXP its just a case of getting the connection and running network setup. Everything else is automatic.
Of course you have to get a connection first. You have to make sure that your cable is a 'crossover' one like Kami said. Some shops test them for you, but Im guessing if the PCs are saying they arent connected (and you dont get a light coming on next to the ethernet port) then your cable isnt a crossover one. You can get cheap adapters that crossover the wires so you dont need to buy a new cable or anything. Also the ethernet port is the rectangular one not a round one. Which one is the round one?? |
