It is, however, shameful the numbers of people that don't care about the fate of the internet. I have brought that subject up on several forums and it receives little or scathing notice.

Comcast has also blocked access to and slowed down access to BitTorrents calling it "reasonable network management". How is it reasonable if I pay for 3Mb/s broadband internet service UNLIMITED to throttle or terminate my service saying I am using TOO MUCH bandwidth? Besides, there have been studies that show that most broadband subscribers only get approx. 48% of the bandwidth they are paying for!

That's mainly because most people have enough issues getting their own pc to run and the world beyond it is too much to care about.

Many users may only get 48% of the bandwidth they are paying for, but if you include the fact that you are paying for a connection that's unlimited (pretty common here in the Netherlands) you get a raw deal.

I guess I only use 25% of what I am actually paying for. 10mbit connection with unlimited access.

What shitty provider is that then? I cannot imagine it being your fault, so it seems they don't give you what you are paying for.

What I meant was that I ofcourse don't use it to it's full extent. Speed of my ISP is great. I simply use @home and have no issues with them.

Well hell, comcast is not only NOT providing the fullest possible connection speeds... they have been caught blocking and throttling BitTorrent access as well as shutting down "bandwidth hogs". If you looked at the article i linked, you will see the kind of thing I am talking about.

The thing here, Gazz, is that they might not want to worry about it, but when the shyt really hits the fan it will be too late.

The reason they haven't really been doing the things like this before is that the internet just recently has moved away from the phone systems. Before the phone systems "common carriage" laws stopped them from acting like asses.

Now they are arguing that they have created a system all its own for the internet. And without regulation it will get bad soon.

Yeah, it a terrifying prospect. You know I don't live in the Us, so we don't follow that many items on the internal points of your presidential candidates. Foreign politics are more of interest to us. Do any of them take a stand on those issues apart from the generic "We will not allow terrorists information and child pornography on the net" comments. Like any candidate would ever allow it...
