Anyone seen this yet?

Not the instant classic Matrix was, but still really well put together and raised a few interesting things about blowing stuff up etc... The original comic must've been pretty deep although I've never read it.

I thought it was great. Maybe not a classic the same way as The Matrix, but still, an important film that will definitely be in the film history books.

Cool, a lot of people I talked to either said "aww too much politics not enough bullet time!" or "V was much cooler in the comics". I was reading yesterday about how the creator of the original comics didn't want to have anything to do with the film, and even the Wachowski's took more of a backseat this time too. So there was a lot of stuff changed from the comics eg Evey was a much younger character and V was a lot less 'humanised'. You'd never see him in a pink apron! But that was done I guess 'cos film is a different medium, the movie audience had to relate to his character more, and they thought a completely dark V would be unnappealing. Also the story in the comic was on a smaller scale with V mostly just trying to convince one person of his cause, not the whole country. So they basically Hollywood-ised it a bit, but stopped half way, so it was neither completely faithful to the comic, nor was it an all out action-fest.

But I loved the style and the humour, and the political messages were relevant. I mean it wasn't saying V was right or that terrorism (Guy Fawkes, 9/11 etc) is the answer, but that governments' imperialistic attitude to the world's problems aren't helping either, and only the people can change things and people tend to need symbols. It's a bit simplistic now that I think about it, but apparently the comic has a lot more detail to it since it's not restricted to 1.5 hours.

Still I'm definitely gonna buy this to keep when it eventually gets a DVD release.

I saw some reviews on TV for the film, and they absolutely slated it, especially Natalie Portman's lacking performance (apparently). The reviews kind of put me off seeing it, but everyone I know who's seen it says it’s a decent film.

I really dug the film, having been familiar withthe comic and the story but having never actually read it, it was a damn good flick like Hellboy.

And as for Ms. Portman's performance, it was up there with her performance in The Professional, damn good.
