Also from Terry Brooks, it's worth a try. as soon as i finish the last book of "The Dark Elf" triology.
Don't see me as a bookworm now i posted these titles, after playin my games.. just before i go to sleep I pickup a book, and read till i find myself in a state so i can sleep. Some times i read twentyfive pages, some times only two, The best thing about reading is that you can create you own Image's by the words of someone else. picking up a book is hard but if you have the right ones.. and read through the first couple of pages you'll see that's really addictive,.. Just like playing games. ps. their maybe some incorrect spelling in my words, thats because i ain't English, sorry about that |

I've read some Isaac Asimov books, and I must say that I love it! I didn't like reading too much, but now, i have found something really cool. You can surely read the "foundation" cycle, the "Robots" cycle too...This is pure science fiction. In the Foundation's you have the impression that Asimov had invented the whole universe, all the cultures, all the languages...that's what makes me dream when I read it.

Not a big reader myself, but my friend who knows what I'm usually into recommended I read any book by Haruki Murakami. So I've just started reading one called The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, and I love it. Very imaginitive and surreal. Even his wesite is cool. :P
Well I'm probably the slowest reader on the planet when it comes to fiction, only cos I tend to drift off mid sentence trying to imagine the world the author is creating. Then I realise that I've missed half the story while I was in some dream world, and I have to go back and read it again! Can't seem to read and imagine at the same time! That's why I'm more into games, but I can't seem to find the right games these days either! But yes I recommend Haruki Murakami for some Japanese, surreal, but very original work. ![]() |

If anybody here's a scientific type that isn't scared away by excessive gore (but, seriously, you guys are GAMERS...gore should be no trouble :P ), an absolutely fantastic read is The Cobra Event by Richard Preston. This book is the best I have ever read. It details a man engineering a strain of the smallpox virus to be much more deadly and gruesome than its native strain, then attempting to unleash this on New York. The book is very tense and intense, but just as interesting is the backstory--Preston knows a great deal about these viral weapons, and he shows it off well. He gives so much background detail and evidence of existing operations that it makes the reader come to the realization that this really could happen, any day. This information is very detailed, yet very accessible. The book is definitely not a light read, but it is more fiction than nonfiction, and is an immensely satisfying read that I wholeheartedly reccomend to anybody who can handle the gore.
(Gore example--a man takes a large surgical saw and uses it to hack his assistant's head off...then uses the knife to peel off his own scalp and EAT it. As I said, not for the faint of heart.) Other good reads: Heart of Darkness: The classic Joseph Conrad book, which I found stunning in its excellent description (excellent isn't even the right term; the flowing language of Conrad is unsurpassed) and, while it drags a bit at times, when everything comes together, it shows itself to be a truly amazing read. The Donor: A Frank M. Robinson book that was, while not amazing, certainly satisfying. It is fairly tense and very simple...not too much brainpower required for this one...but is pretty good overall.

Kami's author is Terry Pratchet. He writes humorous books, mostly in the Discworld series. I've read two (Carpe Jugulum and one other...maybe Eric...) and I was really quite underwhelmed...I found them boring.
But, for me, if somebody doesn't die every 2 pages, it's boring. :P (exxagerated a bit, but I like destruction)
