As you could see, inside the "lab" it got its electricity via wires. Since it is not possible doing so outside, it is needing to be able to make its own electricity. That's the reason for the landmower-engine.

For doing the same thing +/- 20 years ago, regular pc was needed. And now we need stuff that is not that advanced anymore, and can be found in almost every piece of electronics we use (microwaves, washing machines or whatever).
Funny how that guy simply brings back the commodore and (S)NES feeling .
