Default Study sees Microsoft brand in sharp decline

Quote:
Microsoft's brand power has been in sharp decline over the past four years, an indication the company is losing credibility and mindshare with U.S. business users, according to a recent study by market research firm CoreBrand.

According to the CoreBrand Power 100 2007 study , which polled about 12,000 U.S. business decision-makers, Microsoft dropped from number 12 in the ranking of the most powerful U.S. company brands in 2004 to number 59 last year. In 1996, the company ranked number 1 in brand power among 1,200 top companies in about 50 industries, said James Gregory, CEO of CoreBrand.

CoreBrand measures brand power using four criteria. It first rates the familiarity of a company's brand. Once a company has a certain level of familiarity, they are ranked according to three "attributes of favorability": overall reputation, perception of management, and investment potential, Gregory said. While Microsoft's brand is still eminently recognizable, the company is declining in all three favorable attributes, he said.

You forgot a bracket in the first time you are using [quote] in this topic.

This doesn't really show anything about the 360 as far as I can see.

It comes as no surprise really if you consider the dreadful launch of Vista. Nice to see Apple gaining some kudos too, If they carry on this way it wont be long before the word spreads to the home market, where IMHO, they stand to gain the most more quickly. It is about time someone with some real cash and technical knorr-how put the pressure on gates's outfit. As good as linux is, it doesnt have the appeal of a mac book pro!

A sony vaio notebook with Linux would do the trick appearancewise. Apple notebooks do look awesome, design has always been their main feature. Linux itself will gain some ground and already is with the massive interest in EEE pc's. Like I said before and will again, MS needs to pull out of the gaming market with that terrible piece of malfunctioning hardware called the 360 and go back to their core business to save themselves.

MS has climbed very high in the last decades and is now in the position to fall down even harder.

I would hardly condiser the interest in EEE pcs massive and Linux is still wayyy to geeky to be taking to heart by the mass market. It needs a brand and I suppose the nearest it has to that is Ubuntu, but its still not fashionable enough. Apple know their marketing, they have a good recent record of targetting the mass market very well. Look at how many different classes of people stampeded high streets around the USA and UK for the ipod and iphone!

What, EEE pc's are so popular they are being sold by the millions and numerous other manufacturers are now copying their idea. It may not be mainstream in the western world yet (mainly because of supply issues), but it will catch on soon. It also looks pretty cool, Asus Eee PC Desktop, Eee Box Unveiled - HotHardware

I recently purchased Mandriva 2008 and there was nothing geeky about it, it had everything included I could wish for (mediaplayer, officesuite, burning software and way more) and it was way more userfriendly then any windows installation. Update names need some work though.

Apple just does a great job selling their overpriced underpowered hardware trough keen marketing. Thumbs up for them! Funny how the Ipod in particular has got to be the number one failing piece of hardware worldwide and it still sells great. It's even worse then the undisputed number 2, Xbox threeshitty.
