Default Yes, Microsoft can get even bigger assholes.

This time they blocked youtube links in MSN conversations. These guys have way too much influence in the pc world and give me yet another reason (apart form the million other ones) to do my utmost best to stop their foothold in the console and pc gaming world.

neogaf.com — At first I thought it was just me. But then I googled for it and found a forum where people were experiencing the same problem. On MSN, type YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. and the message won't pass. The curious thing is that if you alter any of the letters in the domain (i.e. changing it to youtuve.com ) the message gets effectively passed. WTF, Microsoft?
Source: Digg - MSN messenger blocking youtube links!?!?

This seems to be related to the launch of messengertv. Some stupid function hardly anyone will use and I won't bother to explain much about. It sucks and is done better by tons of other websites.

Anyway, ban on youtube has been lifted a few hours ago, but MS have shown their manipulative behaviour once again.

Apple would have done the same...

Anyway, it shows their struggle against Google.

Did ya even test this?.. You're just digging for this shit aren’t ya look if ya don't like ms products that’s fine but this is starting to get way off hand and btw yes my msn contact could see the hyperlink to www.youtube.co, http://www.youtube.co just fine my theory is that there’s just a messed up filter in one of the servers these people where connected thru dunno but I highly doubt they would intentionally do something like this it doesn't make sense in a way what so ever.

If you actually reqad Gazz's post, he said ...

This does mean that it had been taken care of before you posted.

As for this behavior. Once again I will say ....
"Can you say Net Neutrality needed?"

This is a prime example of the common occurrences that will be seen if we don't get some Net Neutrality laws enacted in this country! And after the big ISP's get that notion defeated in congress, you won't see them backing down. But, I don't expect anyone to care.

The reason they are backing down all the time currently is that they don't want congress to see what they will do after Net Neutrality is struck down!

I just typed in the words: "Msn blocking youtube" on google and this is what came up msn blocking youtube - Google zoeken

Please HD0087, read the entire post before posting and do some background checking. I never make wild claims and always leave a source article. Microsoft is already way to powerfull and you keep backing them up by not fighting for your rights or at least doing a 2 second background check to see if my claims make any sense.

Now, if you look on some info on your filter theory, you will find info on how MSN blocks sites that get spammed a lot on msn within a certain time. For example, cnn.com got said on msn on 9/11 so much, that it got tagged as potential phishing and it couldn't be said on msn for a day or two. From that time MSN started to work with a whitelist of the top 5000 websites in the world that would get through the filter regardless what. Wanna guess on which spot youtube is on the top 5000? Seriously, check before you assume I am trolling.

I did I read the comments on your link took me more than 2sec
Do ya rly think that posting crap about MS's ethics would get people fighting back in such a scale that they would get the message? And what then? They will find another way to "screw" people over. There’s no ethics in large businesses.
You used to be "cool" using the term loosly what’s gone so wrong that you’d become this corporate freedom fighter?
The last thing in your mind should be the console war or some fucked up company, you have newborn child for crying out loud!

All the more reason to have my child grow up in a free world in which pc's have a greater role everyday. You really underestimate the danger of this type of censorship on the net by a company.

I don't give up withe the "but they might find another way" mentality, I never did. Perhaps you don't see the "coolness" in what I am doing for the freedom of the interactive world yet, but you will do so soon.

Also, I have to do something when the babys asleep. Got my masters degree already and a good job on which I hardly have to do anything.

Gazz, you are a moderator here, why do you keep letting the "F" word get by you? I know that is a no-no on these forums.

Also, once again, I'll say NET NEUTRALITY PEOPLE!
WAKE UP!!!

We used to have the F word on a filter, but that only increased the use of the word. If you look at forums like gamespot where they try to edit the word everytime they use it, it's become a sport to say fuck and get away with it. Simply letting it pass to keep it from really getting out of hand seems to be the thing to do.

Net neutrality is an utopia as long as the market is controlled by a single company. Even the standards of the net are mostly based on that of MS and with all of us just accepting it matters will get even worse soon. Live for example (MSN, mail, games) will become a payed service soon when we all get attached to it. Live on xbox is just the first step. Then ms will start making deals with internet providers if they want their customers to connect to live in the first place and things will get worse from that point.

We need to stop this at this point now.
