Default Social media addiction

Hello everybody,

Are you addicted to social networks as well? It is my second addiction next to World of Warcraft.

My name is John Cassidy and since approx 2 years now out of interest I have been doing research on Social Media and narrowed down to Online Communities.

At the moment I can benefit from this by writing my master thesis on the topic. For this reason I have just created an online survey on the "Attractiveness of online communities - a user’s perspective"
http://ww3.unipark.de/uc/online-communities

If you are interested in the topic please fill out the survey takes about 10 minutes and your time investment is appreciated.
However, I will post the findings on my blog: Online Communities so I suggest you look into it and join the broader discussion on the topic.

Thanks for your interest,
John

Red face MMORPG users = Social media Junkies?

Here's a fun article ... it's statement:
MMORPG Gamers and Social Media Junkies are quite similar

content of the article is to compare the goals from members of both fields

http://mashable.com/2008/09/05/gamer...l-media-users/

I am biased on this one as I believe I am a bit of both
What are your thoughts on this?

Default Online community map

Thanks all for the comments - they're energising :P

Here something fun to share which I just stumbled over searching the web
http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/online_communities.png

Somewhat in the style of a treasure map, this ‘Map of Online Communities’ shows MySpace, Wikipedia, SecondLife and other online communities.

The geography is not as random - each community’s geographic area represents its estimated size, and the ‘compass-shaped island’ gives clues as to what each quarter signifies:

North are more ‘practical’ communities,
South is for the ‘intellectuals’.
West lie the communities with a ‘real life’ connection,
East those with a focus on the web itself.

Have fun,
John

Default Smart links evolving

Thanks to google finally realising that short links are more practical they came up with something completely new - smart links, basically translating the URL into English.

Google Realizes That Short Links Are Smart Links In Mobile Gmail

I hope this feature will spread the Internet soon. I guess everyone could benefit a lot from them.

Greetings,

John
