i don't see why everyone has problems with xp.

i run it in 'classic' mode (without the crappy blue startbar) and i haven't had any problems at all. infact, it runs faster for me than all the older versions of windows.

Heh, I'm running it that way on a P2/384Mhz w/384Megs of PC100 and it works just great.

Where I work we are still using WIN95 so I had a unique opportunity with this old POS hardware.

I used WIN95 on it for a while, and it performed like crap, froze up all the time, etc.

I did a clean install of WIN2k pro and it started running great. multi-windows weren't a problem, load times were way faster, etc.

I installed XP pro on it and set it to classic mode, and couldn't tell the difference.

seconded

In classic mode it looks like good ol' '98... There is only thing that bugs me, though - what the hell made Microsoft think I'd be putting everything in c:\My Documents :Oo: Whenever you start na explorer you have to click on My Computer to see your HDD partitions... I was kinda used to it, but since I've been using my sister's PC (Windows 98) for the last 2 months, going byck to my PC made the problem resurface in my mind

XP doesn't have a dos environment, but you could always get a dos-emulator if you need it

When I was running 98 I was reinstalling every month - with XP - 6 months now with no problems... and I am pretty sure it manages the memory far better than 98... about 2k - dunno - I jumped straight from 98 to XP... I tried Millenium for 2 weeks too - crappy stuff

EDIT: I'd stick with Linux if it wasn't for those darn games

Hehe, I had 98, then got ME for a while (6 months ish) realised it sucked, too many crashed/problems, then went to XP and have been there ever since... the only major problem ive ever had with XP is IE randomly crashing on me when i clicked cirtain links thay opens up new windows.. but i dont have that anymore, i just run it in classic mode
