Sli looks sweet for those high end systems.. and extending old system(think 4 years.. u have 1 6800GT.. buy another and nearly 2x the performance) ATI's SLI.. should be interesting to watch.. nearly in the bag that they will offer something... but how good will it be? if the performance is nearly as close as the GFX cards.. it should be interesting to watch.. |

Using SLi and installing to Graphics cards on ur SLi compatible MoBo Does'nt doubles the performance of ur Graphic card. it jus increases it 1.4 not 2x... As tested in Labs with 6600 GT on a 915 Asus MoBo...
But think abut SLI. Having 2 overclocked cards which hav a SLI bridge on it and then installing them in ur MoBo should really boost ur PC's performance... So overclocking is again the key if ur Sys is able to manage on the heat generated by two cards....... well this is jus beginning stage of it... Who know they might increase the performance from 1.4 to 2x afterall.

WTB = want to buy (old mmpog term)
I've been holding off upgrading for a while and with the first prelim reviews of the SLi mobos out there I'm very interested. Buy a 6800GT now and in 6 months when the next rev comes out and the prices drop nab another 6800GT. I was hoping ATI would respond to the NForce4 or at the very least make a formal announcement regarding their SLi type mechanism but it doesn't look like we'll be seing anything from ATI in this regards till very late next year. I think if ATI waits too long they will have a tough time competing with Nvidia since a large number of the issues of developing said tech will be already ironed out (by nvidia) by the time ATI even announces a similar product. I'm still surprised ATI hasn't announced an AMD mobo chipset, I was sure I read an announcement somewhere that they were thinking of it.

You can't currently buy a SLi mobo but by Decenber you "may" be able to get an ASUS or MSI AMD mobo supporting it. Alienware sells a "SLi" type setup but it's with their own Intel motherboard. Their system costs upwards of $6000USD, thanks but I'd rather buy a new car for that kinda dough.
