Yes, you were wrong. That's meaningless rhetoric there.
States do as they please, and can only be interfered with if they do something that is determined to be in violation of the constitution. Of course, federal agencys can practice funding blackmail also.
But hey, feel free to enlighten, oh wise Canadian, as to how my government works. I could have it all wrong.

Bucky, your attitude really, really sucks here - Dennis has made some excellent points, and your rebuttal is basically based upon him 'Not living in your country'.
You dont seem to understand that whoever Americans vote as the president has a real bearing upon basically everything involved in world politics.

I've had similar discussions with Bucky before and I couldn't stop wondering how a man otherwise so intelligent and open-minded could be so block-headed and blind when it comes to dicussing the politics of his country...
I mean, sure, I can understand patriotism, I consider myself a patriot too and my country has also done some bad stuff but at least I'm not proud of it simply bcause they've been done under the national flag...
What do they do to you in America, Bucky? I've sang the national anthem at school too, but it doesn't blur my vision to the realities of life...
I've also noticed that Americans who live abroad tend to be far more politically aware and reasonable than the ones that live in the US... probably because we don't get much CNN over here...
I'm not trying to insult or blame any of you guys... after all it's hard to see the Matrix, when you are part of the Matrix... but it spooks me to see you act like that.

Yup, my attitude sucks here.
My initial point in posting here was to comment to Grey to ease up. Then Dennis wants to argue about it.
I'm not interested in the debate.
Do I know how much US politics influences what happens in the world? Of course, I'm not blind.
But I'm pretty fed up with the condescending attitude toward us "blind, block-headed" Americans. You folks seem to think you have some right to inform us as to who should be president, or that the international community should be part of our electoral process.
There was even a letter writing campaign from England to people in Ohio to convince them to vote for Kerry! Predictably, the response from us narrow-minded simpletons was pretty negative.
I've gone far beyond what I intended in this thread. If you folks want to argue politics, feel free. I've had enough politics for a while.

i heard about a group of people that believe europe should have an electoral college ....... theyve even sent letters asking for this ....... all i can say about that is .....how rediculous ....... yes america effects the rest of the world ....... but alot of what the president is voted in for doesnt effect us ...... it only effects americans ...... so why the hell should we get to vote on who is your president......just like i dont want the rest of europe deciding on things that happen in the uk ...... sandpaper off european politicians

Bucky, no offence, but I think we have at least as much rights (if not more...) to get involved in your domestic affairs and elections, as your country has to get involved in foreign politics and choose who should govern foreign states... Just mind you, that we're doing it through debates and persuasive arguments, not bombs dropping on your house ;)
... it's also funny that you're perfectly comfortable with your country invading other countries, overthrowing regimes, throwing bombs on peoples' heads, and imposing sanctions -- while you can't even take a little argument about your politics when it comes from a "foreigner"... Double standards, anyone?
Anyway, I'll just write down a "win" somewhere on the paper for me and stop arguing now, because you don't seem to be able to argue rationally when it comes to your political affiliations

A number of states decide to let seriously ill people try marijuana to treat their symptoms. The feds: Hell no you won't. Death with Dignity? Again, hell no. Republicans are all for states rights, unless it messes with their specific brand of morality. Either you let the states decide or you dont. You cant have it both ways.

I second what Dennis said. If you poke your nose in everyone's business, don't be surprised if everyone is poking their nose in yours.
I am even less interested in a debate on who your president should be (or should have been)
... as a continuation of the IQ theme that made you so angry in the first place I post this picture... and... try not to take it SO seriously this time
