completely forgot about SuSe.
SuSe is great if your new. Top notch really. 2things bug me about it: Its overbloated and runs slow(well I tried it when I just finsihed playing with my gentoo.. so..) It lacks some features(locate and find, and other basic console commands) MEPIS ain't bad either. Try SuSe.. If you get used to it. try Fedora.. then if you learn Fdisk(gentoo's handbook is good to learn to use fdisk http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/hand...l?part=1&chap=4 u need it for slack ) then you should give slackware a spin(one thing you'll quickly understand about linux is a thing called dependancy hell, its f*cking horrible) just because it has no dependancies. After that give Gentoo a spin once your comfortable with linux i would also recommend just doing it on an old computer.. paritioning on a system with important stuff for your first time is a bad idea. I used linux for 2 years before I installed it on my main machine, I just didn't feel ready, its easier now, but still, I recommend you try it on an old, empty, computer. If you don't want to F anything up, try a live CD(no install, just tuns right off the CD at boot) like Simply-MEPIS or Knoppix |
